The High Dam: You will be escorted by your Egyptologist onto a fascinating tour to the famous High Dam. This engineering miracle was the largest masonry dam in the world!

Since Egypt obtained its independence from the United Kingdom, the High Dam  has brought an end to the Nile’s devastating floods. Despite the fact that rising waters threaten a number of important ancient monuments and archeological sites, the dam provides significant benefits to the people of Egypt.

Temple of Philae: Next, a motorboat guided by your friendly Egyptologist will take you to visit the majestic Temple of Philae.

This temple was dedicated to Goddess Isis, who, according to ancient legends, traveled all over Egypt gathering her husband Osiris’s remains after he was cut into pieces by his brother Seth, God of Evil.

It was on this very island where Isis found her husband’s heart! Hence, a sacred temple was built by Egyptians for Isis, their goddess of purity, sexuality, nature, and protection. It wasn’t very long until her fame extended all the way to the Roman Empire where she was honored by the kings all over the world!

Unfinished Obelisk: Later in the afternoon, you will continue your journey on to Aswan Quarry Landscapes where the heaviest monolith ever found in Egypt. With an estimated weight of 1,160 tons, this humongous man-made block of stone would have been, if finished, the largest piece of Egyptian masonry ever completed! Theories comply that the Obelisk was left unfinished due to an unintended crack along its center.

These Northern Quarries had supplied the ancient Egyptians with most of the hard stone used in building their pyramids and temples.
